When a seriously ill child is underdoing treatment in hospital, a super-hero mentality can make all the difference. This was the spark of inspiration that father Jason Sotiris had, when watching his own infant daughter undergoing treatment for cancer and ultimately led to the establishment of the charity and medical garment of the same name, SuperTee which now delivers hope to seriously ill children receiving cares in paediatric wards across the world.
The SuperTee is a medical garment designed to help children underdoing medical procedures feel more comfortable and empowered during their hospital stay, and features two Marvel superhero designs, shoulder and side studs, under arm openings for temperate access and side openings for tubes and access lines. Essentially it lets a child feel like a superhero while providing hospital staff the access they need to adequately treat the child.
One of the latest initiatives involving SuperTee was spearheaded by Wests Group Macarthur, with the team packing and delivering inspirational SuperTee care packs to Campbelltown Hospital in April; with plans to expand delivery of SuperTees to Camden and Bowral paediatrics wards in the future. Our 40 strong team of Wests staff included SuperTees, colouring books, puzzles, stickers and handwritten words of inspiration into the care packs, to uplift and inspire the children who would later open them.
The SuperTee care packs are being well received by both children and their families, as well as the hospital staff at Campbelltown Hospital. These packs are helping to alleviate anxiety and stress, and they are also providing a much-needed distraction for children during what can be a difficult and challenging time.
Wests have donated over $10,000 to SuperTee through the ClubGRANTS program and are proud to support the mental and physical health of children in the Macarthur region.
