Young Australian rules footballers across Macarthur have received a giant boost this week.
Country Club Gledswood Hills has donated $5000 to go towards the Oran Park Auskick program.
The club’s chairman Warren Thompson presented a cheque to GWS Giants players Daniel Lloyd, Harry Himmelberg, Dawson Simpson and Tim Taranto, acting on behalf of the program, on Tuesday.
Thompson said the financial boost would give more local kids an opportunity to learn new Australian rules football skills in a fun and safe environment.
“We know that many of our club members are concerned about the affordability of kids sport and cost is a big factor for many parents who want to get their children involved in a sport,” he said. “The Auskick program is a very affordable way for parents to let their children trial Australian rules football and learn teamwork.”
AFL NSW/ACT local area manager Greg Talbot said the funding would reduce the costs for children to join the eight-week Oran Park Auskick program and to help purchase new equipment and resources. “We’re delighted to have such generous support from a community sponsor to help get kids outdoors, running around and having fun with their friends,” he said.
Talbot said the first session would be run by Giants players on June 12 at Oran Park’s Wayne Gardner Reserve. “We’re also going to include a special school holiday camp as part of the program,” he said.
